Roger Federer in a Rolex Daytona 'Le Mans' at the Oscars 2024

Watches worn at the Oscars always capture a moment of pure brilliance. The Oscars are not only the highlight of the awards season, with the most coveted trophy, the most beautiful looks, and the most dazzling outfits. The same fashion criteria apply to the wrist: the Oscars are an opportunity for celebrities to show off their finest timepieces.

Sunday's red carpet results lived up to the hype. Amid these sartorial and horological demonstrations, we turn our attention to Roger Federer, our national legend.

At this year’s 96th annual Academy Awards, Federer donned a debonair black and white look complete with the biggest release from the Crown in 2023: the Rolex Daytona Le Mans.

Rolex's Tribute to Le Mans. The Cosmograph Daytona Centennial Edition

To the delight of collectors and beyond everyone's expectations, Rolex, the official partner of the Le Mans 24 Hours race since 2001, unveiled a special edition of its legendary Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona in 2023, marking the 100th anniversary of the event. This iconic timepiece embodies the spirit of motor racing through its unique design and movement, created to commemorate this milestone. Initially intended as a singular creation for the Le Mans 24 Hours winner, the watchmaker surprised everyone by also releasing a version for the general public.

Crafted from 18-carat white gold, this emblematic watch boasts a sporty yet elegant design in understated colors. It features a black Cerachrom bezel edged with a slender white gold rim. The Swiss watchmaker plays a leading role in developing special ceramics for creating monobloc bezels and independently produces its ceramic components. This material offers numerous benefits, including scratch resistance and colorfastness.

The tachymetric scale's graduations and numbers are recessed and colored with platinum using a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) process. A special nod to the event's centenary is the number 100, filled with red ceramic, prominently placed on the tachymetric scale.

The Oyster case, measuring 40 mm in diameter and water-resistant to 100 meters (significantly improved over its predecessors), features a transparent back that showcases the movement's details and rotations. The watch is equipped with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. This legendary timepiece is worn on an Oyster bracelet: a robust, three-piece link bracelet developed in the late 1930s.

This exclusive model is powered by the 4132 caliber, entirely designed and developed by Rolex, and derived from the 4131 caliber. This self-winding mechanical movement delivers exceptional performance in terms of precision and power reserve, offering a chronograph function that counts up to 24 hours instead of the usual 12, and a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. The caliber features unique finishes, including Rolex's Geneva waves-decorated bridges, reinterpreting a famous watchmaking decoration. As always, Rolex stands for excellence, and this new version, like its predecessors, comes with the Superlative Chronometer certification, guaranteeing perfect performance on the wrist. This unparalleled timepiece perfectly combines sporty elegance with cutting-edge technical capabilities.

The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Centennial Edition encapsulates the spirit of adventure and the pursuit of excellence. Its robust Oyster bracelet and waterproof case are designed for durability, while the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal ensures lasting beauty. This watch transcends its function, becoming a wearable piece of history that celebrates the enduring legacy of Rolex and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
