Lot 404, Important emerald ring

The Geneva Jewels Auction – THREE, An Exceptional Showcase of Rare Gemstones and Timeless Elegance.

In the elegant setting of Geneva's Hotel President, Phillips once again asserted its reputation as a leader in luxury auctions with The Geneva Jewels Auction – THREE. Held on November 11th, the sale captivated global bidders online, by phone, and in person, culminating in an impressive total of CHF 12.1 million (approximately $13.8 million / €12.9 million). With 77% of the 112 lots sold, the event highlighted the enduring demand for rare and remarkable jewels.

A Showcase of Rare and Exceptional Gems

Lot 411, Exceptional ruby and diamond ring

The crown jewel of the auction was a breathtaking 17.97-carat Burmese ruby and diamond ring, which realized an extraordinary CHF 4.8 million ($5.4 million). Celebrated for its rarity and impeccable quality, this piece exemplified the exquisite artistry collectors seek. Another highlight, an Important Colombian emerald ring featuring a 20.49-carat step-cut emerald free of clarity enhancements, achieved CHF 1.3 million ($1.5 million), reaffirming the growing value of natural colored gemstones. Among the standout pieces, “The Red Miracle”—a 1.21-carat Fancy Red diamond ring—achieved CHF 980,000 ($1.1 million), soaring past its pre-sale high estimate. Similarly, colorless diamonds commanded attention, with every lot in the category finding a buyer. A 7-carat marquise-shaped diamond ring sold for CHF 280,000 ($317,000), more than doubling expectations and underscoring the universal appeal of timeless brilliance.

Jewels with Provenance and Historical Significance

Jewels with distinguished provenance stole the limelight, adding a layer of history to their allure. A natural pearl and diamond necklace from a European noble family achieved CHF 267,000 ($303,000), exceeding its low estimate by more than four times. Equally fascinating was a Spinel and diamond necklace, once a gift from King George IV to the Marchioness Conygham, which realized CHF 41,000 ($46,000), triple its estimate. Phillips also delighted collectors with iconic creations from renowned maisons, including Cartier, Bulgari, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Buccellati, reinforcing the enduring appeal of signed jewels.

Reflecting on the success of the sale, Benoît Repellin, Phillips’ Worldwide Head of Jewellery, remarked, “This auction demonstrated the extraordinary appetite for rare gemstones, historical pieces, and superb craftsmanship. Each jewel tells a story, and collectors continue to seek out those with exceptional quality and unique narratives.” This auction further cements Geneva’s role as a global hub for luxury, where the connoisseurs of the world converge to celebrate extraordinary craftsmanship and beauty. With Phillips’ next live sale in New York on the horizon this December, the market’s appetite for exceptional jewels shows no signs of waning. From rare gemstones to storied heirlooms, Phillips has delivered yet another remarkable chapter in the world of high jewelry, an event destined to resonate with collectors and admirers of timeless elegance.
